Mission Statement

UAATA is dedicated to bringing comfort, love, hope and healing to those in need through the miracle of the human-animal bond.

Utah Animal-Assisted Therapy Association (UAATA) is a non-profit organization based in Salt Lake City dedicated to bringing comfort, love, hope and healing to those in need through the miracle of the human-animal bond. We envision a world where animals are highly valued as healers and essential contributors to human well-being.

We specialize in training and supervising skilled handler/animal teams who work closely with the professional staff of care-giving facilities sponsoring animal-assisted therapy (AAT) and animal-assisted activity (AAA) programs. Our organization is increasingly recognized not only in Utah, but across the United States as one of the premier programs of its kind anywhere. Our commitment is to move animal-assisted therapy from simply an avocation for volunteers with a strong love for animals (although we are definitely that) into the professional and paraprofessional care-giving arena. We are continually striving to have AAT recognized as a true therapeutic modality that often requires considerable training and sensitivity on the part of the team members at "both ends of the leash".

UAATA places a strong emphasis on advanced training, high standards, and adherence to a rigorous set of values which guide all of our actions.
